  • TADAIMA SHIMODA
A place where you don’t just visit — you’re welcomed back.

In many places, you are a visitor. In Shimoda, you are a neighbor.

“Tadaima” (I’m home) and “Okaeri” (Welcome back). These aren’t just Japanese words; they are the heartbeat of our community.

TADAIMA SHIMODA is a year-round initiative for those who seek more than a vacation. We bridge the gap between “traveler” and “local,” providing a place where you can live, work, and build friendships that last long after you leave.

Here, “Tadaima” isn’t a slogan. It’s what you hear when you return — because you belong.

    How it works

    • Belong, Don’t Just Visit Step inside the local life. Share meals, stories, and daily moments with the people of Shimoda.
    • Work & Life Integrated A peaceful coastal environment designed for digital nomads and creators who want deep roots, not just fast Wi-Fi.
    • A Door That’s Always Open Whether it’s your first time or your tenth, you’re not a guest. You’re someone we’ve been waiting for.

When you’re ready to stop being a visitor, there’s a place in Shimoda waiting for you.

    Join us anytime.

    Discover Shimoda this November!

    TADAIMA 2025

Regional co-creation program taking place with the heartfelt goal of creating a place in Shimoda where people feel they truly belong — a place they want to return to and say, “Tadaima” (I’m home).

If you walk around the streets of the town, you're bound to see various doodle monsters by him... Can you remember any spots you've seen his art? Comment where you've seen his work below - there's one very close to you right now 👀

Like the word “kaibutsu” (怪物), which literally means “strange creature," NY believes we could also use this word to describe someone with an incredible, standout talent. Why Monsters? NY believes everyone is born with a bit of “monster” inside them. A raw, powerful energy. But as we grow older, we start making excuses about what we “can’t” do, and end up locking away that part of ourselves. NY's wish is for more people to live freely, showing their true “monster side” to the world.

@amber_liberty has been working alongside Tadaima @amber_liberty has been working alongside Tadaima Shimoda to investigate and interview local talent, experimenters, innovators, and people in the Shizuoka area, and has had the privilege of talking to Tsuyoshi Maruoka @lepi_trail. Maruoka is the founder of @chuhicha, an innovative and unique company that makes tea from caterpillar droppings🐛 Maruoka is continuing to study for his PhD and was awarded the "KYOTO Next Award" Special Jury Award this year, as well as pursuing collaborations with companies like Lepi Trail.

The unique aroma and flavour born from the natural interaction between insects and plants have earned the tea high praise, with its tea even being used in Michelin-starred restaurants. Backed by the academic soil and sensibility of Kyoto, the company is proposing a new food culture. The partial hope for this company is that farmers in mountainous regions will learn how to raise the larvae and collect the droppings. Chu-chi-ha is working to resolve abandoned farmland, ensure proper farmland management, and revitalise the region by securing new sources of income.

Amber had lots of fun talking more about this and tasting the tea - it was tasty!🍵✨

👋🏻 Meet Yeji 🌏✨ She grew up in a small fishing vil 👋🏻 Meet Yeji 🌏✨
She grew up in a small fishing village on Korea’s southern coast.
Later, she moved to Tokyo for university ✈️🇯🇵—despite carrying a negative image of Japan at the time.
Her belief that “you can’t judge without knowing” pushed her to take the leap.
That choice opened the door to friendships across Asia and a whole new perspective 👏✨
After graduating, Yeji set out as a digital nomad, traveling the world.
In 2018, she founded Seoul Nooks 🏡—a coliving space she describes as “a place to experiment with ways of living.”
Together with her community, she has built a growing movement of global citizens 🌍💫
Now, Yeji is expanding her vision: larger coliving projects, community initiatives,
and a book currently in the works 📚✨
Her journey is just getting started—watch this space 👀🧡
✅ @seoulnooks

She will conduct “East Meets West Harmony” workshop from 2nd to 17th, including Nonviolence Communication.
