Shimoda community — locals and nomads together

Where is Shimoda?

Where Japan first opened its doors to the world — and where it’s opening them again.

A coastal city on the Izu Peninsula, 2.5 hours from Tokyo by train. Shimoda is where Commodore Perry’s Black Ships arrived in 1854 — and where a new kind of opening is happening now.

🏖️ 9 Beaches with crystal-clear water
♨️ Tattoo-friendly Hot Springs & Gyms for daily renewal
🍣 Fresh Seafood — you can be a sushi master
💻 24h Coworking with reliable high-speed Wi-Fi
🚄 2.5h from Tokyo — Limited Express Odoriko

A community that was here before you arrived — and will still be here when you return.

Your Life at TADAIMA

Not a conference. Not a coworking retreat. A year-round community you become part of.

🏠

Year-Round Community

Not a one-time event — a community people come back to.

Coliving, coworking, and weekly gatherings continue all year long. Community managers are on the ground every season — not just during the program. Whether you come in November or February, someone will be here to welcome you home.

🤝

Friends, Not Contacts

The kind of relationships that start at dinner — and keep going after you leave.

Monday community lunches, Wednesday potluck dinners with locals, Friday community dinners. Every week, you sit down with the neighbors, shop owners, and fellow nomads. By week two, you’re not a visitor — you’re someone they remember.

🌊

A Role, Not Just a Stay

Bring what you do. Do it here, with the people who live here.

Run a workshop for local high school students. Share your expertise with a regional business. Join an ocean-cleanup day with the community. The role you take on here is what often becomes the reason to come back.
